Salma (Salma)’s Holding Time story intertwines her personal experience of premature birth with her professional role at Bradford’s Womenzone Community Centre. When her daughter was born at just 28 weeks, she entered the world of NICU care and the emotional strain of separation, uncertainty and hope. Salma’s reflections highlight the vital importance of breastfeeding for preterm babies and the role of medical teams in supporting maternal determination. Beyond her own story, Salma draws on her background as a science teacher and her current work in public health to advocate for women and families in Bradford. Her account illustrates how lived experience can inform and strengthen community leadership, ensuring that more women have access to the knowledge and support they need.
