Maternity & Midwifery Forum introduces The Holding Time Project in Cheshire and Merseyside, a multidisciplinary arts programme developed by Lisa Creagh with Improving Me. Mothers were invited to share their experiences of breastfeeding and motherhood through photography, video, animation, storytelling and writing. The project aimed to explore physical, mental, environmental and cultural barriers to breastfeeding while giving women a stronger public voice.
The article presents Holding Time as both a celebration of breastfeeding and an exploration of the barriers mothers face in establishing and maintaining it, including physical, mental, environmental and cultural factors. Its stated aims included empowering breastfeeding mothers, improving understanding of the complexity of infant feeding, increasing public dialogue and ultimately supporting higher breastfeeding rates.
