Launch event for Baby Week 2026
21 November 2026, 10.00am
Liverpool Central Library
Families, babies and little explorers are invited to join the launch of Liverpool’s brand-new Milk Trail during Baby Week 2026, a unique city-centre trail celebrating breastfeeding, parenthood and the places that welcome families across Liverpool.
Created by award-winning artist Lisa Creagh and The Holding Time Project, and supported by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s Women’s Health and Maternity Programme, the Liverpool Milk Trail brings together culture, community and lived experience to help make breastfeeding feel more visible, supported and understood.
Whether you’re feeding a newborn, exploring the city with toddlers, or simply looking for family-friendly places to spend time together, the trail offers a new way to experience Liverpool through the stories of real mothers and families.
A trail made for families

The Liverpool Milk Trail connects some of the city’s best-loved venues, including museums, galleries, cathedrals, shops and public spaces, creating a network of places where parents know they are welcome to stop, rest, feed their baby and take their time.
Along the way, visitors can listen to moving audio stories from real mothers, discover fascinating facts about breastfeeding and maternal wellbeing, and learn more about the experiences that shape early parenthood.
Families can follow the trail using a printed map or digital guide and explore at their own pace. There is no set route and no time limit. Whether families spend an afternoon discovering a few locations or complete the whole trail over several visits, the experience is designed to fit around family life.
For younger children, there’s also a special Milk Round Challenge, collecting hidden letters at trail stops to reveal a mystery word. Each venue has been illustrated by thirteen year old Lily Swingler, daughter of the artist.

Putting mothers’ voices at the heart of the city
At the heart of the Liverpool Milk Trail are the voices of women and families whose real-life experiences have been captured through The Holding Time Project.
These stories celebrate the joys, challenges and realities of feeding and caring for babies, helping to spark conversations, reduce stigma and remind parents that they are not alone.
Catherine McClennan, Director of NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s Women’s Health and Maternity Programme, said:
“Baby Week is all about celebrating babies, families and communities, and the Liverpool Milk Trail perfectly captures that spirit.
We want every parent to feel welcome and supported wherever they are. By working with cultural venues and community partners across the city, we’re creating spaces where families can feel comfortable feeding their babies, spending time together and accessing support in everyday settings.
This is about much more than a trail. It’s about creating a city where families feel they belong.”
Lisa Creagh, Founder of The Holding Time Project, said:
“The Liverpool Milk Trail is an invitation to slow down and see Liverpool through the experiences of mothers and families.
We want parents to know there are places across the city where they can come in, sit down, feed their baby and take their time without feeling rushed or judged.
Through stories, art and conversation, we’re helping make breastfeeding a visible and valued part of everyday life while encouraging families to discover some wonderful places across Liverpool.”
A lasting legacy for Baby Week 2026

This year, Baby Week is celebrating 10 years of Improving Me the Cheshire and Merseyside Women’s Health & Maternity organisation who originally commissioned the Holding Time project portraits and interviews in 2021. This Liverpool Milk Trail is designed to be a lasting resource for families, helping to build a more welcoming and family-friendly city long after Baby Week has ended.
By bringing together health, culture and community partners, the trail shows how everyone can play a part in supporting parents and giving babies the best start in life.
