Liverpool Milk Trail | Open Eye Gallery

Free tea and coffee! A nice baby change and they always have couches in the gallery so you are welcome to feed. The atrium/gallery space is very child friendly as are the staff. There is a lift to get to gallery 3.
If your baby feeds frequently, you don’t have enough breastmilk? True/False
False. Frequent feeding can be completely normal, particularly during growth spurts. Feeding frequency alone isn’t a reliable measure of milk supply.
Did you know? Breast milk works largely on supply and demand: frequent feeding sends signals to make more milk. In the first weeks and months, babies may feed very frequently — Newborn babies often feed 8–12 times in 24 hours — and sometimes much more often — particularly during growth spurts. This alone is not evidence of low milk supply.
Listen to Ellen’s Story
It gets easier as you go on.
Ellen’s first weeks of breastfeeding were intensely painful. After a long induction and an eventual caesarean section, she was recovering from major surgery while learning to feed her baby, Arthur.
Despite receiving support from healthcare professionals, Ellen experienced severe pain for almost eight weeks before breastfeeding became comfortable. Her experience also affected her husband, who struggled to understand how best to support her and find his own role as a new father.
As feeding became easier, Ellen grew in confidence and discovered the freedom to breastfeed wherever she wanted. One of her favourite places was Liverpool’s waterfront museums, where she could enjoy a quiet feed before exploring the exhibitions.
