What can partners, friends, children, family or even random strangers do to help us when we’re breastfeeding?
Did you have a breastfeeding hero? Or a breastfeeding buddy? Is there someone who really made a difference to you?
Please join us in celebrating Coventry’s unsung heroes of breastfeeding by sending us photos of your #BreastfeedingBuddy and letting us know how the people in your life have supported you to breastfeed.
Celebrating Coventry’s Unsung Heroes of Breastfeeding
When we hear the term ‘breastfeeding support’ we often think about professional help but experiences show that for every breastfeeding mother, there is often at least one person who has been there for them. In some cases, perhaps just to bring a glass of water. In other cases it may be the person who sees them through the hardest times.
We want to highlight the invisible hands, smiles, words and deeds of the supporters who help us on the journey of breastfeeding, whether it is your neighbour, friend, mother-in-law, partner or child. We know that there are so many people in the community that make a crucial difference.
Who can take part?
Everyone in or near Coventry with a picture or story to share! Your breastfeeding buddy might be supporting you with breastfeeding right now – or your days of breastfeeding might be a distant memory – it doesn’t matter! We want to celebrate all Coventry’s breastfeeding heroes new and old and show that breastfeeding isn’t a secret act – it’s at the heart of our communities.
The Holding Time project is in the Coventry area for Coventry City of Culture 2021, working towards an exhibition at Arcadia for National Breastfeeding Week this June.
What to do
Send us a picture of your Breastfeeding Buddy and let us know what you’d like them to be celebrated for – if you’re posting it on social media, use #BreastfeedingBuddy plus #Cov2021 on your social media post – or you can email Lisa directly (below).
- Instagram: @theholdingtimeproject
- Twitter: @holding_time
- Facebook – join our group Holding Time – Coventry #breastfeedingbuddy
- or email artist Lisa Creagh at firstname.lastname@example.org
You could take a photo yourself if it’s someone you’re going to see (please don’t break Covid rules!). Or you could ask them to send a selfie for the project (with their permission).
If you can’t get a picture, we’d still like to know why this person was important to you, so please send us a tweet or Facebook post telling us who helped you breastfeed and how?
How will my images be used?
We’ll display images and quotes on our website and social media and we’ll project a wall of #BreastfeedingBuddy images in a Coventry public space during National Breastfeeding Week this summer.
It’ll be like a best practice gallery of the people who support mothers, and a way of thanking them too. Some of our partner organisations may display the images too.
We hope it’ll start conversations about how all the ways people can support mothers to breastfeed – and may even inspire those who would like to be helpful but don’t know where to start.
