Mothers and families throughout Bradford shared their experience of breastfeeding as part of the Holding Time Project, launched with a live event during Baby Week Bradford on the 14th November 2024.
This Art Project, by visual artist Lisa Creagh, gives Bradford mothers and birthing parents from across the city and opportunity to share their stories and increase visibility of infant feeding issues through photography, interviews, and performances.
Activities began in the summer with local mothers meeting the artist, giving interviews and taking part in photo shoots in the city. Longer versions of these interviews are being released as podcasts across multiple media channels.
To accompany the programme of events, local women were invited to attend free writing workshops at Cartwright Hall and Womenzone from 12th September to share stories of their own birth and breastfeeding experiences and create a short piece of writing with a fresh understanding of their journey. Twelve one and a half hour workshops were delivered by Holding Time writing lead, Rachel New, ending with performances for Baby Week Bradford.
A permanent photographic exhibition of participating local mothers breastfeeding will be on display in the Maternity Department of Bradford Royal Infirmary from 15th January 2025.
