Holding Time is a project challenging the cultural stigmas surrounding breastfeeding.

For Coventry City of Culture I produced twelve new portraits of local mothers. Each mother was interviewed for their experience of breastfeeding. These interviews are available on the Youtube channel.

In the animation, mothers feed in sequence using a technique devised to show an altered version of ‘real time’. In place of the familiar 24 frames a second, the animation is stripped down to four frames per second.

Combining a broad program of documentation and discussion, it is an intervention, both real and virtual.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for your very beautiful portrait of Sabrina and Isabelle breastfeeding. It is now up on the expressing room wall and it certainly fills me with joy every time I see it and I’m sure it will be the same for our expressing mothers. Thank you so much
