September saw the launch of a new Maternity Clinical Trial Unit at Warwick University, headed by Professor Debra Bick, previously of Kings College London. Lisa Creagh presented the ideas behind the Holding Time Project alongside presentations on projects such as the Big Baby and Alife trials, work with parents facing ‘difficult’ babies, and an appearance by the Chief Midwifery Officer at NHS England and NHS Improvement and National Maternity Safety Champion for the Department of Health, Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE.

Royal Brompton Hospital was host to Holding Time from April- June 2018. Part of this exhibition is a specially commissioned breastfeeding portrait of Sabrina Byrne, mother of Isabelle, a hospital patient.

As part of a refurbishment of the expressing room on the Rose Ward, where critically ill babies are cared for, RB&H, the Arts Charity based at Royal Brompton Hospital commissioned a breastfeeding portrait of Sabrina Byrne, mother to Isabelle, a baby with Cystic Fibrosis. An animates sequence of Sabrina offering medicine to her child before feeding was created and from this, a still image was chosen for the expressing room.

ONCA Gallery hosted a conversation between Lucila Newell and Lisa Creagh to discuss some of the themes and ideas of the Holding Time work. The event was very well attended by parents, Bloggers, Health professionals and maternal researchers from Brighton, London and beyond.

ONCA Gallery was an opportunity to test out the idea of a Breastfeeding Hub, to gather together voices, show the mother interviews and start a conversation about the structural and cultural barriers to breastfeeding. This exhibition also featured a workshop and a conversation with Lucila Newell, Academic, Mentor and Writer of several BLOG posts for the website.
